I just stumbled upon an article I wrote ages ago on natural alternatives to chemicals for flea, tick and mostquitos. Some really good stuff, so I thought I’d share it.
Ugh! Bugs! Keeping Critters off your Critter

Don’t worry.. I still have all my fingers… believe it or not, my knife skills are pretty good.

We’ve been in our house for five years. When we moved in I was thrilled to see the pantry! So HUGE! The top shelf, however had been neglected by the previous owner who had been there for eight years. I don’t think he could reach it and I doubt he would have trusted himself on a ladder.

So the top shelf had some old papers from the Previous previous owner, like an appraisal from 1972 ($19,000.00… we bought it for $75,000.00) and some lovely pantry moths were just having a party eating up that paper.. ew.

I cleaned the pantry, top to bottom (we moved in November) and when summer rolled around, they were back.. in droves!

For five years I’ve been battling these little buggers and I thougth this year I had them beat.. I put just about everything they would find tasty in commercial grade rubbermaid tubs.

Now you are witness to my weakness… baking! see all those tubs! After I lost 25lbs of flour to the little buggers, I took drastic action!

So anyway, last night I went into the pantry to get the kids snacks and POOF! I was assaulted by gobs of pantry moths! WHERE are they coming from.. WHAT are they possibly EATING?!

My dogs cookies.. that’s what they are eating.. the bin I have for the cookies is not as airtight as the manufacturer made out to be.. they were having a field day. (but my flour was safe)

So, I feed the kids and I get out the vaccuum.. I’m going to suck them up! And I do.. (and I’m going to have to buy traps… I hate that but I’m out of options)

then I figure (now it’s 11PM) that I might as well vaccuum the tile floor in the kitchen since it’s part of my Saturday list anyway. So I attach the floor brush and get to work…

(the mishap part is coming… wait for it)

I’m cruising along, all proud of myself because now I’m ahead of the game..

And then…

the cord wraps around a feeding station and before I know it…

I’ve dumped an entire Bullmastiff sized water bowl on the floor….
