Yeah, ok.. but it’s still crap.

Shel was watching Good Morning America the other day and they had some guy a vet on who was going on about dog food.. blah blah blah.. but she was interested in this one that was shaped like a bone.. supposedly it makes for a more enjoyable experience for the dog.

My first thought was how hard it was to get Charlie to eat when he was sick. (He had a bladder tumor) We actually ended up cooking his beef and putting it in a Kong for him to eat. He absolutely refused the same food in a bowl…. but this was like heaven for him.

In theory it’s a great idea, this “Whole Meals” thing… I thought I’d dig it up and share it with folks.. but..

um…

Well it’s pretty crappy food.

Since I can’t copy and paste their ingredients (and it took me FOREVER to find them.. also not a good sign- although I did get to see that it’s made by Mars corporation… gotta do something with those left overs from the frozen dinners) I thought I’d just do a screen capture and show it to you.

Ew… sure chicken by-product meal is a good source of glucosamine and Chondroiten (one day I Will learn how to spell those) because it’s all bone and cartilage.

AAFCO: Consists of the ground, rendered, clean parts of the carcasses of slaughtered poultry, such as necks, feet, undeveloped eggs, and intestines, exclusive of feathers except in such amounts as might occur unavoidably in good processing practices.

Blech

I read the blog of that vet’s daughter… how funny is that. She’s a vet too. His name is Dr Marty Becker.

I agree that IS crap food… but its better than Old Roy or some other crap fodder that most of America shoves down their dogs throats.

why is feeding a dog such a difficult endeavor.

Yep. Or as we like to say around here — ca-wap!

I’m beginning to lean toward raw feeding myself these days.

Great blog .. I’m enjoying reading it a lot and am going to link so I can find my way back easily! Come visit.

And, I so agree about crap dog food … I feed mine wellness simple and we’re all happy with it but I have been through the wringer finding something that both can tolerate and I feel good about feeding them. I cooked for my one for a while — she ate better than I did! LOL.

We got a bunch of those in our goodie bags from Pedigree for winning BOV at the San Antonio dog shows, and I let my picky boy try them as a treat (they were small and he’s on the skinny side, so I figured one meal of junk food wouldn’t hurt him.) He LOVED them. Too bad the ingredients are so crappy! I’ve tried almost every premium food on the market. (Today, I’m going to bite the bullet and go pick up a bag of Honest Kitchen stuff, even if it IS more oer oz than I pay for starbucks coffee (my once a week indulgence)

You could also try Aeylon by PhDproducts.com

And I have been known to feed a little junk now and again.. after all, I get pizza once in a while.

Is he just not eating or just picky about his food? Whole Dog Journal did an article on picky eaters once… must dig through the archives
