Guilty until Proven Innocent

Once again, dogs are blamed for something that they probably didn’t do (and this time Mastiffs and bullmastiffs.. I fear BSL more than anything really).

When the caretaker on Ving Rhames property was found dead with dog bite wounds the immediate assumption was that the dogs killed him. After all they are massive right? I never believe the first story… it’s always the dogs fault as far as the media is concerned.

I watched the video of the dogs being taken away and the dogs were wagging their tails, having a grand ol time. I said to myself, these are not killers (not that a waiving tail means much but still)

The guy had been a caretaker there for a few years, so everyone figured the dogs “just went nuts” and killed a man. Since all the wounds were on arms and legs, I’m then thinking “I hope someone didn’t think it would be fun to try and play schutzhund dog and got hurt”.

So the buzz dies down.. and I’m still wondering, what is going on with these dogs.

After all that splash about the dogs killing a person, I hear nothing.

Until today on TMZ (Trash Media Zone – ok not really) I find this interesting blurb

“Ving Jumps to Conclusions in Dog Attack Case”

Oh crap.. what does that mean?

It means that TMZ, although actually reporting an update, is still implying that the dogs killed this person, when if you read the article you find this little gem buried inside.

The LA County Coroner tells TMZ that it was most likely something else, and not the dogs, that killed Jacob Adams

The rest of the article goes on to say how Ving is jumping the gun and that something must have killed this guy, implying that the coroner is wrong.

I want a media outlet for the dogs point of view… seriously, we can’t even report that the dog didn’t do it without slathering it in doubt?
Did the dogs bite him? Obviously. But has everyone forgotten the first face transplant recipient, who’s face was chewed off by her own dog after she collapsed in a suicide attempt? What would your dog do in a panic if you didn’t get up?

On this day..

I remember a case years ago when a woman was found dead in her home with two German Shepherds. Lurid headlines about the dogs killing her went on for days. An autopsy showed she died from an OD. And that bit of news was buried in the back of the papers that even bothered to mention it. The news media has a weird idea of what dogs are and are not.

It seems the general public loves hearing the sensationalism about dogs killing people. It’s strange, moving in dog savvy circles, and then meeting people who have no clue that dogs will be dogs. They are not people in suits. And they don’t ‘go crazy’ and kill for no reason. Hrmph.

You are absolutely right Cyn. I cannot tell you how many times I hear that the dog just “went crazy”. A few pointed questions and come to find out the dog was sending out warnings for ages and no one was paying attention.

License dogs? Heck people ought to be licensed to *have* dogs!

Funny how the media will neglect facts if it makes a better story. @%@#$*@ jerks. Reminds me of the 60 minutes piece on Redfin, how they left out the fact in the broadcast that eRealty was bought up by Prudential realty for millions.
